The Delaware County Engineer’s Office has selected the Preferred Alignment for the Sawmill Parkway Extension. Detail design and right-of-way preparation for the Parkway has begun. No additional Open Houses are currently scheduled. Discussions regarding the purchasing of property for the SPE right-of-way are ongoing and discussions with property owners affected by the Preferred Alignment are currently underway and will continue throughout the design process.

Project Update

The County is continuing the process of conducting field surveys and environmental studies that will be used in the preparation of construction plans and environmental documentation. Construction from Golf Village North to Hyatt’s Road was completed and opened to traffic in August 2009. Construction of the Parkway north of Hyatt’s Road is subject to several factors including right-of-way acquisitions, environmental clearances and utility relocations. Our office continues to aggressively work through these obstacles in an attempt to move this project forward as quickly as possible. Right-of-way negotiations have been ongoing with affected property owners and are expected to be completed late in 2011 for the Parkway up from Hyatts Road to Bunty Station Road. Actual construction is not likely until 2012.

Vision Statement

The Sawmill Parkway Extension Plan will be developed by the Delaware County Engineer's Office with careful consideration of the needs and desires of the community to best meet the long-range mobility needs of the region. Guided by the community's involvement, the Plan will allow for future construction of a roadway improvement and its necessary rights-of-way. The plan will be responsive to the existing and future land use needs of the community and be sensitive to the priorities and goals of the various stakeholders in the Sawmill Parkway Extension Plan.
